Osteopathy
An American doctor, Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917), went looking for a new understanding of health and disease. The basis for osteopathy is formed on the basic understanding that the body contains all it requires to maintain its own health (self-healing powers) and that the mind, body and spirit are form a single unit.
In osteopathy, the person is divided into three main areas:
- Parietal (musculoskeletal system, connective tissues)
- Visceral (abdominal organs)
- Craniosacral (skull, spinal fluid, meninges, sensory organs, sacrum)
When is osteopathy used?
In infants and young children, for example, birth-related facial and cranial deformations, scoliosis, infections in the middle ear cavity, allergies, KISS syndrome, colic children, torticollis, hip deformities, learning and concentration difficulties and to regulate jaw structure.
In adults, for example, acute back pain or tension, joint problems, traumas, migraines, tinnitus, headaches, TMJ/TMD disorders, minor digestive problems, (heartburn, depressive moods), burnout syndrome, menstrual pain, menopausal or pregnancy monitoring, scars and adhesions after an operation.
How does osteopathy work?
Through touch with special manipulations the osteopath will relieve tension and restore balance in and around these systems to help the body’s own healing mechanisms.
Refunding of costs
The costs for osteopathy are usually covered by supplementary health insurance. Ask your health insurance provider for more details.
